Water scarcity is a major problem in our country, many of the major cities are running out of water. We are dependent on surface waters that are scarcely available and often polluted by nutrients discharged in our wastewater. Nitrogen and phosphorous is dumped into surface water and oceans every year causing eutrophication while we are importing urea, phosphorous and potassium by paying billions of rupees.

Urine contains of about 96% of water and remaining is nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium) and is one of the potential resources to recover fertilizers in demand. Hence, we at water chakra, developed a self-sustainable modular toilet system which aims to reduce water footprint and generate green chemicals and water for reuse from the human and cow urine.

The idea changes the way sanitation projects are being managed, from a financial liability to a revenue generation model and it aligns with Swachh Bharat Mission, Make in India Mission, and Sustainable Development Goals.
